Basics of Islâmic Creed [2]

Q-1 Who are the Angels?

The Angels are creatures of light. They are Allâh’s obedient slaves, they do that which they are commanded and are incapable of disobedience.

Narrated by ʿÂ’ishah (رضي الله عنها) that she said, the Messenger of Allâh (ﷺ) said: The angels were created from light, and the Jinn were created from smokless fire, and Âdam was created from what has described to you.

Sahih Muslim (2996)

Q- 2 What does it mean to believe in the Books and the Messengers?

It is to believe that Allâh sent the Messengers like Mûsâ (Moses), ʿIsâ (Jesus), Ibrâhîm (Abraham), Nuh (Noah) etc. And it is to believe Allâh sent down the (uncorrupted) books like the Torah (Book revealed to Mûsâ, Moses), Injîl (Gospel revealed to ʿIsâ, Jesus), Zabûr (Psalms).

Also, it is to believe that these books were revealed and all the Messengers were sent to call the people to worship Allâh Alone, associating nothing with Him. And that Allâh sealed (finalised) the Messengers with Prophet Muhammed and abrogated all previous books with the Qurʾân. Therefore our worship should be done according to the Qurʾân and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzân [‏حفظه الله] mentioned:

Whosoever rejects anyone of them has rejected them all and is a Kâfir (disbeliever); and if he were to believe in some of them and disbelieve in others, he will be a Kâfir (disbeliever).

The Explanation of An-Nawwawî’s 40 Hadith Explained by Shaykh Sâlih Al-Fawzân - Dâr Makkah Print

The Shaykh’s statement is based on the statement of Allâh:

Verily, those who disbelieve in Allâh and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allâh and His Messengers (by believing in Allâh and disbelieving in His Messengers) saying, "We believe in some but reject others," and wish to adopt a way in between.

-

They are in truth disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment.

(Q. 4:150-151)

Q- 3 What does it mean to believe in the Last Day?

The Belief in the Last Day means to believe that Allâh has ordained a fixed ending for everything and an ending for this world. He will assuredly raise the dead from their graves and will account for everyone their deeds in this world. On that Day of Resurrection, rewards and punishments will be assigned. Everyone will be justly rewarded or punished. Nobody knows when this will take place but Allâh

They ask you about the Hour (Day of Resurrection): "When will be its appointed time?" Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone). None can reveal its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth. It shall not come upon you except all of a sudden." They ask you as if you have a good knowledge of it. Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allâh (Alone), but most of mankind know not."

(Q. 7:187)

The disbelievers pretend that they will never be resurrected (for the Account). Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): Yes! By my Lord, you will certainly be resurrected, then you will be informed of (and recompensed for) what you did; and that is easy for Allâh.

(Q. 64:7)

Q- 4 What does it mean to have belief in Preordainment (Qadar)?

The Belief in Preordainment (Qadar) means to believe that everything — good or bad — happens or takes place according to what Allâh has ordained for it. He has created everything in due proportion.

Shaykh Sâlih Al-Fawzân [‏حفظه الله] mentioned:

Al - Qadar are the things that Allah has preordained from what has happened and what will happen until the hour is established. The pen has advanced with the protein mints and they are written on the Lawh Al-Mahfūdh [The Preserved Tablet]: all that will be until the day of judgement so nothing happens except according to Qadar:

Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).

(Q. 54:49)

Q- 5 What is the meaning of “Lâ ilâha ilâ Allâh ”?

Q- 6 What is the meaning of “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allâh”?

It means total submission to him in whatever he ordered and avoiding what he forbade and believing in all those matters he informed us about.

The Four Conditions of The Statement Are:
  1. To obey the Messenger (ﷺ) in all he commanded.

  2. To stay away from all that he (ﷺ) prohibited.

  3. To believe in what he (ﷺ) informed us of.

  4. To only worship Allâh how he taught us to worship Him.

Listen to classes on the conditions of the Shahâdah.

Q- 8 What is the greatest thing that Allâh has enjoined upon us?

The greatest thing Allâh has enjoined is Tawhîd (Monotheism) - to worship Allâh alone and free your worship from Shirk.

Q- 9 What is Tawhîd (Islâmic Monotheism)?

Tawhîd is to single out Allâh as the only God who is truly deserving of being worshipped. Additionally, it is to affirm to Allâh all attributes which He has mentioned for Himself in His Book or on the tongue of His Messenger; Muhammad (ﷺ).

More specifically the Scholars of Islâm mention that it is to single out Allâh with all that is specific to Him.

Q- 10 What are the categories of Tawhîd?

There are three categories of Tawheed:

  1. Tawhîd-ar-Rubûbiyyah - to single out Allâh in all actions that are specific to Him; for example, only Allâh send down the rain, He alone sustains all of the creation and nurtures them.

  2. Tawhîd-al-Ulûhiyyah - to single out all your worship for Allâh alone; so your Salâh is for Allâh alone, your Duʾâ is for Allâh alone, and the rest of the acts of worship; they are all to be done for Allâh alone.

  3. Tawhîd-al-Asmâʾ was-Sifât - to single out Allâh in all of His beautiful names and attributes that He mentioned for Himself in the Qurʾân and on the tongue of the Messenger (ﷺ).
