The Hijãb of a Muslim woman: Proof of the Hijaab being obligatory (Wãjib) Islam is not like Christianity whereby their own religion is guesswork. Allãh says in Sûrah An-Najm, Ãyah 28

They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.

They (the Christians) don't have Isnãd (chain of narration back to their prophet, ʿÎsã - عليه سلام) so they can't really establish proofs, but in Islãm, Alhamdulillãh we have Isnãd.

Abdullah bin Mubaarak (رحمه الله) said: " Verily Isnãd (chain of narration) is from our religion and were it not for Isnãd anyone would have said what he willed.

As Muslims, we do not claim something except that we provide proof for it. So, what is our proof that wearing the Jilbãb is Wãjib (compulsory)?

In Islãm four things can be used as means of proof

1). The Qurʾãn

2). The Hadith of The Messenger (ﷺ)

3). Consensus of the Scholars (Ijma')

4). Qiyaas as-Saheeh

Proof From The Qurʾãn

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyûbihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islâm), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful.

An-Nur : 31

There are two ways to derive rulings:

(1) Al-Mantûq; directly from the wordings of Allãh or The prophet

(2) Al-Mafhûm; indirect wordings, i.e. what is understood

In this Ãyah we can derive that wearing the Legislated Hijãb is Wãjib (an obligation) in both ways Allâh says "And not show their adornments" is an explicit prohibition to show their beauty to foreign men "except what is apparent of it" except what is impossible for them to hide. That outer garment itself is also Zeenah (adornment) but it is not possible to hide. So they wear from that outer garment what is the norm as long as there is nothing of Fitnah (temptation) on that outer garment (meaning that the garment should not be attractive in and of itself).

Allãh prohibited the Muslim woman from showing her beauty to foreign men. And the scholars mention that the basis of Allãh saying 'do not do' something is that that thing is Harãm, except there are proofs saying otherwise.

Also in the Ãyah Allãh commanded women to protect their chastity, and since "the means to get to a particular intent takes the same ruling as the intent", then from means of protecting chastity which is covering themselves, becomes obligatory.

By observing the Legislated Hijãb there is protection of the eyes from seeing what will lead to Faahisha; lewdness.

In another Ãyah Allãh says:

"O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies - The word in the Ãyah used is “Jalaabeeb” which is the plural of “Jilbaab” - “…..That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allâh is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Sûrah Al-Ahzab : 59

As mentioned by the Scholars of Fiqh (Islãmic Jurisprudence) Wãjib is the ruling given to an act which if you do not do it you are in danger of Allãh punishing you; however, doing it will bring rewards.

A question to those who do not observe the Legislated Hijãb, how are you so sure that Allãh will not punish you?

O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allâh, but do that which they are commanded.

Sûrah At-Tahrim : 6

The fuel of this fire is people that do not want to obey what Allãh has ordered them. Allãh describes the Angels over the Hellfire with four things:

1 & 2) Stern and harsh - meaning: mercy has been removed from their hearts

3) Severe - meaning: Allãh created them in apex in severity and strength.

4) They do not disobey Allāh in what Allāh orders And they do whatever they’re told to do.

The Hellfire was created for the disbelievers and the believers that did not obey Allãh. My dear sister if you do not want to be in this Hellfire with these stern Angels it is upon you to obey Allãh and wear the correct Hijãb. Won't you be scared of Allãh and wear your Hijãb?
